I'm delighted to be
able to publish this directory of chrysanthemum ailments, the
result of a joint effort between myself and Ivor Mace. We
thought that a quick and easy reference to the main pest, disease
and nutritional disorder problems chrysanthemum growers face
would be helpful to growers in the U.K. and worldwide. We
appreciate that problems differ in other countries and we would be
only too pleased to include other pests, diseases and disorders
experienced in other parts of the world. We also appreciate
that chemical controls might differ in different countries and this
will have to be taken into account when treating a pest or disease.
Although there is
nothing particularly new about the information provided in this
directory, what is unique is the fact that the information is
available on-line and assembled in one place. A 'one-stop-shop' that will hopefully provide useful information to all
chrysanthemum growers.
The directory is
initially focused on the common ailments of chrysanthemums that may occur in the U.K.,
although one or two more obscure items are included. We have tried to
give good coverage of pests and diseases plus nutritional and other
disorders. The directory is organised by grouping the entries within
these broad headings, as you will see
from the links on the left side of the page.
Please view the directory
as a
'work in progress' project, we hope to add new information
whenever it becomes available. If there are items you would like to
see covered in the directory please let us know and we'll do our best to include
them. If you have experience with a pest or disease that you wish to
share with other growers please provide details and we'll do the
rest.
One of the issues we
have had to consider is the use of chemicals and the availability
(or otherwise) of professional products. Many U.K. chrysanthemum growers
have a spraying certificate and access to professional products so,
while not condoning the use of 'non-amateur' products, they are included
for completeness and will eventually be summarised in the
proposed 'Products and Chemicals Index'
page.
