2004 Show
Season - Introduction
This series of web pages contains results
and pictures from a number of Shows in Scotland and England. The pages
are based on the shows where
I exhibited or visited in during the season. Rather fewer shows listed
this year compared to previous years due to a decision to exhibit at the UK
National Show in Stafford. In
the list of shows down the left hand side the society name is a link to the individual page for that
show. Each of the photos is shown in thumbnail form, just click on the small image
to see a larger version of the picture.
Conclusions
- 2004 Early Shows
For a while it looked like 2004 might be the
perfect season - not too hot through May to Mid June, then somewhat duller and
slightly wetter through to end July. Then it all went wrong. August 2004 was the
wettest on record with some locations on the east coast of Scotland recording
over 300% of normal August rainfall during what seemed to be endless days of
damp and misty conditions.
Although many growers reported
damping of blooms, and unprotected sprays all but destroyed by the
conditions, chrysanthemum growers are a resilient bunch and most shows were
well supported, if a little down on previous years. The exhibits of medium
disbuds seemed to be very well supported while the classes for both large
disbuds and sprays were often a little thin.
