Dundee Flower Show 1st -
3rd September
The 2006 Dundee Flower Show was held at
Camperdown Park from Friday 1st to Sunday 3rd September. The chrysanthemum
classes were again well supported.
The new premier class in the show is the
Scottish Championship - The Andrew Pinkerton Trophy - for four vases of
disbudded blooms in four distinct cultivars. Four excellent entries in the class this
year from Dennis Morrice, Tom Buchan, Ian & Sheena Rankine and Dave Scott.
Ian and Sheena's entry of Yellow John Wingfield, Pink John Wingfield, Chempak
Rose and Purple Chempak was awarded first
prize and also picked up the Best Exhibit award, to top it off the vase of
Chempak Rose was subsequently selected as Best Vase in Show. Tom's entry was second and
included Pearl Celebration and White Pearl, Yellow Courtier and Pink John
Wingfield. A very difficult job for judge Colin Campbell with the task of
separating these two entries. Dave Scott was third, Dave's entry consisted of
John Wingfield and peach and candy sports, plus peach Venice. The remaining
entry was from Dennis Morrice, Dennis exhibited Malcolm Perkins, Millennium,
Clapham Delight and Carlene Welby to make this the most highly contested class
in the show.
In the 3x3 Large class Dennis Morrice was successful
with Billy Bell, Malcolm and Clapham Delight, Alan Ainsworth was second (Dorridge
Crystal, Rileys' Dynasty, Billy Bell).
In the medium Section the class for 3 vases of
five blooms was won by Paul Barlow (Candy, Pink and Yellow John Wingfield), the
vase of Candy John Wingfield received the NCS Certificate of Merit having been
judged 2nd best vase in show. Ian Gerrie was second with an entry consisting of
Pink and Honey John Wingfield and Purple Chempak Rose. Dennis Morrice was third
(Lorna Wood, Wembley, Darlington Jubilee) and Alistair Cameron was fourth
(Candy, Pink and Salmon John Wingfield).
Ian Gerrie won the class for 6 vases of three medium blooms with
Millennium (2), Carlene Welby, Wembley (2) and Yellow John Wingfield. One
of the vases of Millennium was selected as the best vase of three blooms and
collected the NCS Bronze Medal.
