The North Western Counties
Chrysanthemum Society and League Early show took place at the Elizabethan
Suite, Town Hall, Knowsley Street, Bury. The major prize winners were as
follows:
NCS Silver medal for
Exhibit of Most Merit
Winner: Barry Bickerdyke for his entry in class 9 - five vases of five
blooms. Barry used an 'all Wingfield' entry to gain this award.
NCS Bronze Medal for Best
Vase in Show
Winner: Chester Society for their vase of Pink John Wingfield
NWCCS & L medal for
Best Large in Show
Winner: Denton Society for their vase of Yellow Billy Bell
NWCCS & L medal for
Best Medium in Show
Winner: Chester Society for their vase of Pink John Wingfield
NWCCS & L medal for
Best vase of Sprays in Show
Winner: Frank McVann for his vase of Primrose Enbee Wedding
NCS Certificate of Merit
(two awarded)
Winner: Len Whitehouse for his five vases of sprays.
Winner: Ken McDean for his vase of Lorna Wood.
Other details from the show

Sowerby Bridge won the inter Societies league class for six individual
blooms/stems of sprays (Enbee Wedding, Peach Enbee, Fulfen, John Wingfield
and two Liverpool Festival). Ken Harrop won the RBS medal for best
individual bloom/stem in this section.
Chester Society's three vase
entry in class 4A included Honey, Candy and Pink John Wingfield - the vase
of Pink was best vase of mediums and overall best vase in show.
The Wythenshawe Cup for Best
Exhibit in the 'intermediate' classes for growers who have not previously
won a trophy at the NWCS early show was won by Peter Robinson for his vase
of three 'Joyce Fountain'.
