Royal
Horticultural Society Aberdeen - 26/27th August
The RHS show is one the
highlights in the Aberdeen horticultural calendar, unfortunately due to late
season the chrysanthemum exhibits were a little thin on the ground.
In the disbud classes Fraserburgh
grower Dennis Morrice was successful in 3 vases of mediums (Wembley,
Carlene Welby, Lorna Wood). Ian Gerrie (Stuartfield) was placed second
(Horace Hockedy, Carlene Welby, Wembley) and Donald Buchan was third
(Matlock plus amber and bronze sports). Dennis' entry was selected as Best
Exhibit and awarded the NCS Silver medal. The vase of Wembley in Dennis'
entry was judged to be Best Vase in Show and awarded the NCS Bronze
Medal. In the Natural sprays Doug
Stewart (Aberdeen) was successful with Enbee Frill along with Salmon and purple
sports, Doug's entry also gained the NCS Certificate of Merit.
Other exhibitors included
Jim Craigen and Paul Barlow.
Also on show was a vase of
the new seedling 'Joyce Charlton' (24b Deep Red), a seedling from Peter
Fraser of Blyth in Northumberland. This new cultivar was registered in
2005 and will be available in 2007 through Frank Charlton Chrysanthemums.
