Aberdeen C&D Society - 15th September

In spite of the year the show was well supported with a fine show of chrysanths and dahlias from North East growers. The chrysanthemum judge was NCS Scottish Group Chairman, Dave Scott, and what a pleasant surprise he encountered on entering the hall.

The results from the chrysanthemum classes are detailed below. The Aberdeen Championship for Large blooms requires three vases of five blooms in three cultivars. Two  entries this year - Tom Buchan's entry of Allyson Peace, Lynn Johnson and Cherry Chessington was placed first, this exhibit was also Best Exhibit in show. In second place was Paul Barlow with an exhibit that included Lynn Johnson, Allyson Peace and Yellow Billy Bell.

The Aberdeen Champion of Mediums requires three vases of five blooms in 3 cultivars and was well contested with three entries this year. In first place Tom Buchan's weighty set of Wingfield sports (Pink, Salmon and peach). Paul Barlow's all Wingfield entry (pink, salmon and John Wingfield) was second with the vase of John Wingfield  selected as Best Vase in show and awarded the NCS Silver Medal.  Ian Gerrie was third with Woolley Globe, Purple Chempak Rose and Joyce Frieda.

The Press and Journal Trophy class requires six vases of three blooms in at least four cultivars. Two entries this year from Paul Barlow and Ian Gerrie. Paul's entry was placed first with vases of Candy John Wingfield (2), salmon and pink JW , Billy Bell and John Wingfield, this latter vase was selected as best vase of three blooms in show and awarded the NCS Bronze Medal. Ian's entry consisted of honey, peach and yellow John Wingfield plus Millennium, Woolley Globe and Joyce Frieda.

In the spray classes Society Secretary Donald Buchan won the class for three vases of Natural Sprays, Donald used Pennine Ginger, Pennine Whistle and Ruby Enbee Wedding.  Second in this class was  Dennis Morrice with vases of Pennine Oriel, Southway Sheba and Pennine Bullion.

In the Exhibition sprays Arthur Fisher was successful with Enbee Wedding and pimrose and peach sports. Doug Stewart was second - peach E.W. Broadway Mandy and Enbee Frill.

In the local Growers class for three vases of three blooms Donald Buchan's entry (Joyce Frieda, Carlene Welby and Kimberley Marie) was placed first ahead of Jim Craigen (Cornetto, Egret and Yellow Egret)  In the open class for three vases of three blooms Jim Craigen exhibited Cornetto, Kimberley Marie and Pink John Wingfield to take the red card.

In the two vase class (one vase large and one vase mediums) Paul Barlow was successful with Billy Bell and Millennium and also collected the NCS Certificate of Merit for this entry. The Billy Bell was also awarded the cup for best vase of five blooms outside the Large and Medium championship classes.

Single vase entries in disbuds and sprays were well supported by all growers.
