Royal
Horticultural Society Aberdeen - 25/26th August
The RHS show is one the
highlights in the Aberdeen horticultural calendar, and this year we had a
change of venue - a move to Hazelhead Park to accommodate a much expanded show
and to provide improved and larger parking areas. The show was opened and prizes
presented by Celebrity TV Gardener Chris Collins.
Unfortunately due to nature of the
2007
season the chrysanthemum exhibits were rather few and far between this year.
In the disbud classes local
grower Paul Barlow was successful in 3 vases of mediums (Red Chempak Rose,
Joyce Frieda and Chempak Rose), Jim Craigen (Cults) was placed second (Peter
Jolly, Lorna Wood, Carlene Welby). Paul's entry was selected as Best
Exhibit and awarded the NCS Silver medal. In the Natural sprays Donald
Buchan (Aberdeen) was successful with Peach Enbee Frill, Southway
Spellbound and Pennine Whistle.
In the single vase classes
Doug Stewart exhibited a weighty vase of Cornetto, Ed Mitchell (Montrose)
exhibited Broadway Mandy (NCS Certificate of Merit) and Paul Barlow
exhibited Billy Bell.
Paul's vase of Billy Bell was judged to be Best Vase in Show and awarded the NCS Bronze
Medal.
