In spite of the year the show was well
supported with a fine show of chrysanths and dahlias from North East
growers with very little room left on the benches. The chrysanthemum judge was
Ally Donald from Brechin, Ally commented on the all round cleanliness of
the chrysanthemum exhibits.
The results from the chrysanthemum
classes are detailed below. The Aberdeen Championship for Large blooms
requires three vases of five blooms of at least two cultivars. Just one
entry
this year from Paul Barlow with an exhibit that included two vases of
Billy Bell and the Yellow Sport. This exhibit was the Best Exhibit in Show
and one the vases of Billy Bell was selected as Best Vase in Show and
received the NCS Silver Medal.
The Aberdeen Champion of Mediums requires
three vases of five blooms of at least two cultivars and was well contested with
two good entries this year. In first place Paul Barlow's all Wingfield
entry (pink, salmon and John Wingfield). Bill Angus was second using an
all Chempak set (red, purple and the parent Chempak Rose).
The Press and Journal Trophy class
requires six vases of three blooms in at least four cultivars. Two entries
this year from Paul Barlow and Jim Craigen. Paul's entry was placed first
with vases of Millennium (2), salmon and pink John Wingfield, Woolley
Globe, and yellow John Wingfield, this latter vase was selected as best vase of three
blooms in show and awarded the NCS Bronze Medal. Jim's entry consisted of
Kimberley Marie (2), Chempak Rose and purple sport, Egret, yellow John Wingfield.
In the spray classes Society Secretary
Donald Buchan won the class for three vases of Natural Sprays, Also in
this class were Dennis Morrice and Ed Mitchell. In the Exhibition sprays
Doug Stewart
was successful with Enbee Wedding and pimrose sports (2) .
In the local Growers class for three
vases of three blooms Donald Buchan's entry (peach John Wingfield (2) and
pink John Wingfield) was placed first ahead of Jim Craigen (Cornetto,
Kimberley Marie and Chempak Rose In the open class for three vases of three
blooms Donal exhibited yellow, cream and pink John Wingfield to win the
class ahead of Jim, who exhibited Cornetto, Kimberley Marie and
Chempak Rose.
In the two vase class (one vase large and
one vase mediums) Paul Barlow was successful with yellow Billy Bell and
cream John Wingfield.
Single vase entries in disbuds and sprays
were well supported by all growers.
