| Cultural tips
from John Peace and Barry Hogg:
John's notes:
Syd Paine grown two up with the 14th of April stop and it flowered the
1st week of September giving me nice big round flowers.
Barry's notes:
Syd Paine -
Again pot grown 10 ins clay. and the identical method employed as with
Allyson Peace. Only had one plant to trial and this was the base of one
John had already removed the growing tip from, in order to re-root and
increase his stock. So you could say it had been stopped once in early
February and stopped again on the 10th April.
Sid is a heavier plant say on a par with a Chessington and again I found
it slow to develop from bud to full bloom and likewise I did continue
feeding up to colour show. You must bear in mind the open structure of
the compost used in both cases and the fact the plants were riper than
when grown in the ground.

Regional Stopping guide
The dates we choose for stopping our chrysanths can never be
guaranteed to produce flowers on a specific date for a specific show,
weather conditions and other factors (such as garden aspect, location,
cultural routine etc) will all play a part in influencing speed of plant
development following the stop. The following information relates to
stopping dates for producing blooms for Shows during the first half of
September and are offered as a start point for new growers. Adjustments
should be made for later or earlier shows. |
